About Tim Biskup

Focused on his unique blend of abstract and figurative painting, Tim Biskup is always pushing the envelope from his studio, Face Guts, in Los Angeles. However he chooses to let it out, his style is always recognizable. You’ve probably seen the drawings, sculptures, vinyl toys, animations and everything else that Tim has made over the years in one of your favourite magazines, one of his many exhibitions or anywhere else in between.

A little word from Tim…

Ahead of going to the Summer Camp I really felt like I needed a break so I was mainly expecting to relax in new surroundings. I also love hanging out with other artists, and hoped for deep and interesting conversations with the artists joining and whom I would spend a lot of time with during the five days we were there.

Aside from the deep and interesting conversations that we had I was very taken by the terrain around the small city of Joseph. I was fascinated that what I thought was a man made dam was actually 100% natural. Like a long fat knife cutting into the earth. Epic. I spend a lot of time outdoors in LA and the scenery in this north eastern corner of Oregon is very different from what I’m familiar with. The bugs, the trees, the smells. I like to observe those differences. They always pop up in my work. One of the days I went for a random walk throughout the small town and passed by the local high school, which was pretty incredible, too.

Right away after arriving in Joseph I felt so comfortable. The vibe was mellow and chatty, and we all shared a lot of laughing and storytelling. I’m always interested in how other artists work so it was fun to see others at work and hear about their process. My print is based on a drawing I made on-site. It’s abstract but I see birds and trees in there, along with the mountains and weather. Rocks, caves, there is lots of movement. Something like a relief sculpture. Very alive, but maybe a bit unsettling.
