Spotlight: Sweden

Scandinavia, and its three countries Norway, Sweden, and Denmark, is a northern realm where fjords carve deep into mountains, forests stretch endlessly, and the sky dances with northern lights. Unlike much of Europe, life here moves with the rhythm of nature, shaped by long winters, bright summer nights, and a deep cultural respect for the land. Norway’s dramatic coastlines, Sweden’s serene lakes and forests, and Denmark’s gentle countryside form a landscape both wild and welcoming. Rooted in Viking heritage and shaped by centuries of shared history, these nations value simplicity, equality, and a quiet strength. Together, they form a distinct corner of Europe—minimalist yet rich, reserved yet deeply connected.

Our spotlight on Scandinavia allows you to find a series of artworks and limited edition prints inspired by the country. The Scandinavian landscapes have been the source of inspiration in plenty of trips with The Jaunt, from the small town of Furudal, to the high north of Tromsø, and the island of Møkster and Bornholm, and the cities of Stockholm and Copenhagen. Below you can find a selection of prints inspired by Scandinavia.

21 - 26 June, 2020

About KC Ortiz
Born in Chicago, and currently residing in Copenhagen, KC Ortiz has a rich history that has informed him and his worldview to this day. After an active graffiti career and gaining a notorious reputation in and around Chicago, he had a series of run-ins with the law and ended in prison. While incarcerated Ortiz developed an interest in current events through the work of photojournalists in newspapers. After getting out, Ortiz worked as a photojournalist in combat zones, and ultimately he landed back in love with art again. The work of KC Ortiz is an exploration on survival, preservation, and resistance in a world that is rapidly changing under political upheaval, economic inequality, misinformation, and technological advances. By examining and questioning both our individual and collective roles and responsibilities in these current times and to future generations and civilizations, Ortiz visualizes the struggle of these questions.

We've got a history with Gothenburg. Over the years we've had the pleasure of working together with artists like Linnea Andersson, Ekta, and Marie Dahlstrand, who are all from this Swedish haven. It only seemed right to dive even deeper into the second biggest city of Sweden and send an artist on their own Jaunt journey to the city. Aside from the cultural hub that Gothenburg is, there is a thriving gastronomical scene, and even in December, there is beautiful nature and history to explore.

The Faroe islands are an autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark, located right between between Iceland and Norway, and north of Scotland. The dramatic landscape of the total of 18 volcanic islands that make up the Faroes give plenty of space for scenic hikes, bird spotting, and the many sheep that inhabit the meadows. The weather can be equally dramatic, as Tórshavn the capital is supposedly one of the cloudiest cities in the world.
