About Jérôme Masi
Hailing from France, the artist Jérôme Masi worked for years as a graphic designer, art director and illustrator, only to have focussed his attention to painting in recent years. In a distinctive style, through minimalist silhouettes, muted color palette his work refers to childhood memories and a time of worry and care free sense of play.

Destination: Näsets Marcusgård, Sweden
Back in 1910, a man called Marcus Eriksson founded Näsets Marcusgård in rural Sweden, about a four hours drive north of Stockholm. It started small, but soon the farm became the central meeting place in the area. Nowadays Näsets Marcusgård is run by two Dutch entrepreneurs, Mireille and Willem, who were immediately inspired to build a place that combines history and nature with modern comfort and quality.

A little word from Jérôme

"What I expect from any trip is to be a little disturbed by the novelty. The Winter Camp provided me with a moment in life to live somewhere new with strangers and it suited me perfectly. The departure date arrived, and I left without having had much time to think about it. I let myself be guided.

It's hard to pinpoint one particular memory that stood out to me. It's the whole collection of impressions that shaped my memories. For example the road that goes by on our first night, like in a David Lynch movie. The farmhouses with their typical Swedish architecture and the numerous classic 90’s Volvo cars in their gardens. The night I slept in the Supermåne, a round treehouse in the forest, which felt like a trip in a submarine trip. The traditional Swedish fikas in the afternoons and the walk through the farmhouse village on the top of the mountain, but also Kitra’s questions and David’s jokes, and then more of Kitra’s questions.

I generally try to approach things in a positive way. So for me, this stay was an opportunity to meet, share, confront, and above all to get out of my comfort zone. Our relationship built up naturally over the days. I really enjoyed getting to know everyone's world, culture and experience, which helped me to see things for myself. There's obviously a bond that develops when you spend a few days together. Maybe what surprised me is how adaptable we are.

We have an ability to adapt to a new environment, to people, to a different rhythm from our daily routine. It may seem complicated, but often, if everyone's willing, it works. In my work, I always try to create something who invites the spectator to reflection and this time, inspired by my experiences during the Winter Camp. There were two things that I wanted to touch with my artwork. First, I wanted to talk about human relations, in particular in our group during these five days lived together. Secondly I wanted to talk about nature, Wide wild spaces, the snow and the silence. With my artwork I wanted to integrate both into one artwork and I chose to evoke man's position in nature, like a stone Cairn."
