Spotlight: South Korea

South Korea is a land where ancient mountains and serene temples meet neon-lit cities and cutting-edge technology. Its rhythm blends centuries-old Confucian values with a fast-paced, modern lifestyle driven by innovation and resilience. From the tranquil beauty of Jeju Island to the bustling streets of Seoul, nature and city life coexist in striking harmony. Its cultural heritage—seen in royal palaces, traditional hanbok, and the enduring spirit of han—shapes everything from K-pop to kimchi.

In our spotlight on South Korea you can discover how artists from The Jaunt have become inspired by the country of South Korea. Resulting in a series of limited edition silkscreen prints and even original artworks on paper. Below you can find a selection of artworks inspired by South Korea.

#011 - Raymond Lemstra
€200.00

Destination: Seoul, South Korea
Date: 28 November - 05 December, 2014

About Raymond Lemstra:
There is something distinctively unique about the work of Raymond Lemstra. His aesthetic features a rare mix of primal and innovative influences, seemingly combined without much effort. Or maybe it is just his childlike curiosity and endless imagination that fuels the fantasy world of Raymond’s art. With his highly detailed and labour intensive drawings Raymond is looking for the clash between randomness and reason, between organic curves and firm linear forms, all with the purpose to inspire a sense of joy and discovery in the viewer. With that in mind, it is beyond our imagination what will inspire Raymond on his trip to the mesmerising capital of South Korea.

More examples of Raymond’s work can be found on his website; www.raymondlemstra.nl

Destination: Seoul, South Korea
Above all, South Korea’s Seoul is a city of rich contrasts. From historic palaces and temples to skyscrapers of record breaking heights, Seoul lives in harmony with its ancient traditions and cutting edge innovation. It is easy to lose yourself among the overwhelming impulses that Seoul has to offer, from the ever present neon signs to the many Korean BBQ restaurants. Just a few hours outside of the city lies the DMZ, the heavily armed border between North and South Korea, and one of the only places where you can get a sneak peek at the most secretive country in the world. Meanwhile back in Seoul, we will take you to the neighbouring areas of Songpa and Gangnam, one of which you may have heard mentioned in a song recently. Raymond will set up his temporary home in Songpa, and it is from there he will be exploring the city and beyond.

#110 - Cody Hudson (Variant Edition)
€175.00

Destination: Jeju Island, South Korea
Date: 27-31 August, 2024

About Cody Hudson
Working right in between the two worlds of art and design, Cody Hudson knows as no other how to create fine balance between the two. His use of graphic lines, compositions and a refined color palette makes his graphic design look like art, and vice versa. Exploring the elemental use of shapes is at the foreground of Cody’s work, trying to figure out how shapes can work together in perfect harmony. The shapes are elementary, but at the same time immensely complex, and Cody is here to make sense of it all.
