Spotlight: Denmark

Denmark, a land of coastal cliffs, wind-swept beaches, and serene forests, lives in harmony with nature, where hygge is a way of live that is perhaps best explained as the art of cozy contentment, and comes down to shaping daily enjoyable moments with people you enjoy. From the colorful harbor of Nyhavn in Copenhagen to the island of Bornholm, Danish heritage blends Viking roots with minimalist modernity. The Danes treasure simplicity, sustainability, and strong community ties, reflected in their design, cuisine, and calm, balanced lifestyle. Historic castles dot the landscape, whispering tales of kings and queens, while the legacy of Hans Christian Andersen lives on in stories told to children across the world.

Our spotlight on Denmark allows you to find a series of artworks and limited edition prints inspired by the region. Denmark has been the destination of a handful of trips with The Jaunt. Below you can find a selection of prints inspired by the country of Denmark.

About Charlie Edmiston
On first sight, you wouldn’t guess that Charlie Edmiston is colorblind, however his perpetual study and experimentation of different color harmonies is an essential part of his proces. Ask anybody about Copenhagen, and they will tell you about style and design. Danish design is globally recognized and its inspiration is far stretching. In the 1940's Finn Juhl was one of the leading figures of Danish design, and has always been an inspiration to Charlie Edmiston. During his trip to Copenhagen, Charlie is looking forward to visit the House of Finn Juhl, to learn even more about the designer.

#066 - KC Ortiz
€150.00

Destination: Bornholm, Denmark
Date:
21 - 26 June, 2020

About KC Ortiz
Born in Chicago, and currently residing in Copenhagen, KC Ortiz has a rich history that has informed him and his worldview to this day. After an active graffiti career and gaining a notorious reputation in and around Chicago, he had a series of run-ins with the law and ended in prison. While incarcerated Ortiz developed an interest in current events through the work of photojournalists in newspapers. After getting out, Ortiz worked as a photojournalist in combat zones, and ultimately he landed back in love with art again. The work of KC Ortiz is an exploration on survival, preservation, and resistance in a world that is rapidly changing under political upheaval, economic inequality, misinformation, and technological advances. By examining and questioning both our individual and collective roles and responsibilities in these current times and to future generations and civilizations, Ortiz visualizes the struggle of these questions.

#095 - Anders SCRMN Meisner
€225.00

Destination: Tórshavn, Faroe Islands
Date: 24-29 May, 2023

About Anders SCRMN Meisner

The Danish artist Anders Meisner is a storyteller at heart. With a fascination for subjects like colonization, politics and nature, he is portraying the history of a place or character through his unique use of motifs, color schemes and humor. His works are contemporary cave painting, as he calls it himself, or perhaps they are better explained as 'being descriptive without being explanatory'.

Destination: Tórshavn, Faroe Islands
The Faroe islands are an autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark, located right between between Iceland and Norway, and north of Scotland. The dramatic landscape of the total of 18 volcanic islands that make up the Faroes give plenty of space for scenic hikes, bird spotting, and the many sheep that inhabit the meadows. The weather can be equally dramatic, as Tórshavn the capital is supposedly one of the cloudiest cities in the world.
